Share News With the Community
If you want to be included in next week’s post, follow these steps:
- Join the #thisweek:gnome.org Matrix room.
- Ping “TWIG-Bot” and write a short message in which you share what you’ve been working on.
- The bot picks up your message and saves it.
- Every Friday we publish a new issue on thisweek.gnome.org with all the collected news.
You can find more information about “This Week in GNOME” (short TWIG) in Felix’s blog post.
Requirements
- Your update must be relevant to GNOME or related projects (e.g. Flatpak).
- If you contribute to a project, your changes should be merged into the main branch before you share them with the community.
- The project should be published on an established platform so that users can access it via regular sources (e.g. Flathub for apps or extensions.gnome.org for Shell extensions). This does not apply to projects where this is not possible (e.g. system components such as GNOME Shell or apps that cannot be packaged as Flatpaks for technical reasons).
- Don’t use an LLM to generate your message. You don’t need to write long, perfectly formulated paragraphs - less is often more! This does not include tools used for translation or finding/correcting grammatical or spelling errors.
If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to to contact us in #thisweek:gnome.org!
FAQ
How can I customize my name that will be used later for the blog post?
The bot uses your Matrix account name. If you only want to change the name for TWIG, you can use the /myroomnick <Name> command in the #thisweek:gnome.org room to change it.
I want to change how my project appears in the blog posts. / How can I add my project?
All project definitions are listed in the hebbot config.toml file. If you want to edit the information for your project, please open a merge request!
Do I need Matrix to share news?
Yes - the bot uses several matrix exclusive features (such as message reactions, or images / videos) that are not compatible with IRC (or would not work with an IRC bridge).
I want to change the message I submitted. Can I edit the original submission I sent?
Yes, just edit the submission using your Matrix client, the bot will pick up the changes.
